Victory By Standing

Victory By Standing
One of the first things in military training is to learn to stand well. Old soldiers will tell you that there is nothing which so tests the courage and the obedience of men as to be required to stand still on the field and hold a position in the face of the enemy. Ofttimes the battle depends upon standing firm. The same principle applies in all life. Much of Christian duty is not active, bustling work, but quiet, patient waiting. There come many times in the experience of every life when victory can be gained in no other way. We must stand still and wait for God. Immeasurable harm is wrought in personal lives and in the work of God by the impatience that cannot wait for the divine bidding to go forward. It requires a grander heroism to stand and wait and not lose heart and not lose hope, to submit to the will of God, to give up work and honours to others, to be quiet, confident, and rejoicing, while the happy, busy multitude goes on and away. "The world comes to him that can wait," says the proverb.

Psalms 25:3: Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause. (KJV)
Psalms 25:5: Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. (KJV)
Psalms 27:14: Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. (KJV)
Psalms 37:7: Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (KJV)
Psalms 40:1: I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. (KJV)
Psalms 62:5: My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. (KJV)
Psalms 123:1-4: Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us. Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. (KJV)
Psalms 130:5: I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. (KJV)
Psalms 145:15: The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. (KJV)
Isaiah 40:31: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (KJV)
Lamentations 3:22-33: It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him. He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope. He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach. For the Lord will not cast off for ever: But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men. (KJV)
Habakkuk 2:3: For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (KJV)
